Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Licorice is among the popular drinks associated with the month of Ramadan.
Like many Ramadan drinks, licorice has benefits such as hydrating the body, giving it energy during fasting, as well as improving digestion and reducing heartburn.
But not all people can enjoy this delicious drink as they like.
And the official account of the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population warned in a tweet on “Twitter” people who suffer from high blood pressure, kidney and heart diseases from consuming this drink, as it constitutes “a direct danger to their lives.”
Licorice increases potassium in the human body, and this substance is considered the “first enemy” for kidney patients in particular, due to its effect on the heart muscle, and its ability to stop it.
Although it is a popular drink in Ramadan, people who suffer from pressure, kidney and heart diseases are advised not to consume it.
And when it comes to Ramadan drinks, such as “licorice”, tamarind, and qamar al-din, always remember that it is better to prepare them at home to control the amount of sugar in them.
It is also important to serve juices in small cups so that the amount consumed is less.
