Ukraine’s defense minister is “confident” that Western countries will send fighter jets

(CNN) — Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said he was “confident” that “Western countries will supply combat aircraft to Ukraine, despite the resistance of some allies.”

Reznikov added, in an interview with the German newspaper “Bild”, on Friday, that Ukraine will receive “two or three different types of combat aircraft, and this will depend on the engineers and the availability of spare parts.”

He went on to believe that there would be a “so-called fighter aircraft alliance” as with deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks from Western allies.

The Ukrainian minister believes that Western countries will not initially agree to deliver combat aircraft, as happened with the Leopard 2 tanks, as Germany did not agree at first.

According to the German newspaper, the Western allies have informed Kiev that they are ready to start training pilots for combat aircraft, which will be the next step in strengthening the Ukrainian air defense system.
