Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorga Meloni, during which they announced the elevation of relations between the two countries to a strategic partnership, according to the official Emirates News Agency. (Wam).
The agency quoted Mohamed bin Zayed as saying, “During my meeting with Giorga Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, I discussed strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and we witnessed the announcement of a number of memorandums of understanding to enhance our joint work in climate action and sustainable energy, and to elevate relations into a strategic partnership.”
WAM added, “Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received the Prime Minister of Italy, and they witnessed the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding, and they discussed paths of cooperation and opportunities to build a strategic partnership between the two countries during the next stage, especially in the economic, investment, trade, energy security, renewable energy and technologies fields.” Cleanliness, sustainable development, addressing the repercussions of climate change, and food security,” according to the agency.
The agency indicated that the Emirati president and the Italian prime minister “emphasized that dialogue, giving priority to diplomatic solutions, and cooperation is the way to address various crises and files and enhance stability and security.”
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the activities of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which the UAE is hosting this year.
Mohammed bin Zayed stressed that “the UAE supports peace, cooperation, and settling crises through dialogue and diplomatic means, with its full readiness to cooperate with friendly Italy, in everything that achieves stability and development in the region and in the world,” according to what was reported (WAM).
