The Tunisian opposition announces its rejection of the new parliament and adheres to the 2014 constitution

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Tunisian opposition, represented by the “National Salvation Front”, announced on Sunday evening its refusal to recognize the new parliament, hours before its first session, and the front affirmed its adherence to the 2014 constitution, according to what it published in a statement on its official page on “Facebook”.

The National Salvation Front said in the statement: “After what the front called (the coup authority) dissolved all the municipal councils elected in 2018, a few months before the end of their duties according to decrees, the National Salvation Front confirms that the acquisition of municipal councils is a new link in the chain of procedures.” The coup that enshrined the head of state placing his hand on all authorities, disregarding the emerging experience of local governance stipulated in the 2014 constitution, and in flagrant violation of the laws and regulations in force.

“This systematic and irresponsible campaign perpetuates a populist dictatorship,” the Front added in its statement.

And the Front announced that it “does not and will not recognize the Parliament, which it described as (a metamorphosis), emanating from the constitution (an illegal coup), and elections that were boycotted by the overwhelming majority.”

The Tunisian National Salvation Front also affirmed “its adherence to the constitution of 2014, which was ratified by millions of Tunisian voters, through their deputies in the National Constituent Assembly. What came from the fund can only be replaced by the fund,” according to the text of the statement.

The statement “strongly condemned the campaigns of continuous raids, fabrication of charges, and abuse of political prisoners.”

The Front held “Tunisian President Kais Saied and those assigned to the Ministries of Justice and Interior personally responsible for the safety of the detainees, especially those on hunger strike.”
