Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Council of Ministers announced a “road sector strategy”, on Tuesday, which aims to effectively develop this sector at the level of economy and safety.
The General Authority for Roads in Saudi Arabia indicated that the strategy aims to “raise the road quality index to the sixth classification in the world.”
The goals also include “reducing road fatalities to less than 8 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants” and “covering the road network with safety factors according to IRAP classification.”
The authority stated that the objectives also include “maintaining advanced levels of service for the capacity of the road network” and “raising the percentage of private sector participation in operational works to 20%.”
The strategy also aims to achieve a contribution of 74 billion Saudi riyals (approximately $20 billion) and create 293,000 direct and indirect jobs.
