Russia: We will continue to inform America of our missile tests in advance

(CNN) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, Thursday, that his country will continue to inform the United States in advance about its missile tests, despite Moscow’s suspension of participation in the “New START” nuclear weapons treaty.

Ryabkov said, on Wednesday, that all kinds of notifications between Russia and the United States had been suspended under the “New START” treaty.

The Russian official told reporters that Moscow “will continue to voluntarily notify the United States of the missile launches,” and added: “From a political and legal point of view, the situation is such that all kinds of information exchange, as well as other elements of verification activities in accordance with the START treaty, have been suspended by us, However, as announced in February, on a voluntary basis, the Russian Federation will abide by the limitations set out in the treaty, and will also continue to implement the 1988 Agreement on the Exchange of Missile Notifications.

According to the Russian news agency “Tass”, Ryabkov stressed that “Moscow has made its position clear to Washington verbally and in writing,” adding: “There is no ambiguity here.”
