(CNN) — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said, Wednesday, that “the risk of a nuclear conflict is now at its highest level in decades.”
“I would not like to get involved in a discussion whether the possibility of a nuclear conflict is high today, but in any case it is higher than anything we have seen in the past decades,” Ryabkov said while attending a discussion at the Valdai Club conference. .
He stated that non-nuclear countries, especially those not allied with the United States, should “address louder officials in Western capitals, including Washington, who have completely lost their sense of reality,” and stressed that his country will not deviate from its “ideological and political positions.”
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced, last month, the suspension of his country’s participation in the “New START” treaty to reduce nuclear weapons with the United States.
