FC Barcelona announced, Thursday, its contract with Joao Mendes, son of Brazilian legend Ronaldinho, to join the youth team.
Mendes, 18, who earlier ended his contract with Cruzeiro in the Brazilian second division, has been training with Barcelona’s youth team on a test since last January.
ESPN reported that Mendes’ contract with the Spanish club extends until the summer of 2024.
Ronaldinho, Barcelona’s ambassador, spent five years at Camp Nou from 2003-2008, playing more than 200 matches with him and scoring about 100 goals.
He helped the Catalans win the European Champions League, as well as two Spanish league titles, while he was part of the 2002 World Cup-winning Brazil squad.
