(CNN) — Russian President Vladimir Putin, Friday, signed a decree on a new version of the concept of Russian foreign policy, which ranks the United States as the main security threat to Russia, and to the “just development of mankind.”
The document stated that “Moscow considers Washington’s path the main source of risks to its security, international security, peace and just development for all mankind.”
“The new concept of foreign policy provides for the possibility of taking similar and non-similar measures in response to unfriendly actions against the Russian Federation,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, after presenting to Putin the updated doctrine of Russian foreign policy.
The 42-page document outlines the main goals of Russia’s foreign policy, among them: strengthening military cooperation with allies and eliminating US hegemony in world affairs.
According to the document, Moscow also sees “the risks of exacerbating conflicts involving large countries, as well as escalating them into a local or global war. And the factor of power increasingly determines relations between countries.”
Russia will also focus on deepening relations with India and China as well as increasing cooperation with Latin American countries.
