Argentine Emiliano Martinez, winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his country, won the best goalkeeper award in the world, among the FIFA Best Awards, on Monday.
Martinez, Aston Villa goalkeeper, beat Belgian Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper, and Moroccan Yassin Bono, Seville goalkeeper.
Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after extra time tied 3-3 in what newspapers described as one of the best finals in World Cup history, to win the title for the first time since 1986.
“It’s a great thing for my career to win this award,” Martinez said. It is a source of pride for me and my country to win the World Cup after 36 years.
