Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Argentine star Lionel Messi won, on Monday, the “The Best” award for the best soccer player around the world during the year 2022, presented by the International Federation of Football Associations “FIFA”.
Messi outperformed Frenchman Kylian Mbappe and his compatriot Karim Benzema, to win the award for the second time in history.
Lionel Messi led his country to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring 7 goals and providing 3 assists.
As for the rest of the “The Best” awards, Spain’s Alexia Potillas won the Best Player award.
Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni won the best coach award, defeating Italian Carlo Ancelotti and Spaniard Pep Guardiola, while Dutch Sarina Wegman won the best coach award.
Argentine Emiliano Martinez received the best goalkeeper award, overtaking Moroccan Yassin Bono and Belgian Thibaut Courtois, while England’s Marie Erbes won the best goalkeeper award.
The Puskas award went to Poland’s Marcin Oleksi, while Luka Lukoshvili, the Italian Cremonese player, won the Fair Play award.
Argentina fans won the best audience award.
The “The Best” awards ceremony was held in the French capital, Paris, on Monday evening, and the identity of the winners was announced, based on their submissions, from August 8, 2021 to December 18, 2022.
