The first football team, Lazio, exploded a heavy-caliber surprise when it defeated its host Napoli, the leaders seeking its first title since 1990, with a single goal on Friday at the “Diego Armando Maradona” stadium, in the opening of the twenty-fifth stage of the Italian League.
Lazio owes its victory to Uruguayan international midfielder Matias Vicino, who scored the only goal with a powerful shot from outside the area, which he placed to the right of goalkeeper Alex Merritt (67).
The crossbar denied Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen an equalizer by returning his header from close range (79).
The capital team continued its revival and achieved its third successive and fourteenth victory this season, temporarily snatching second place, one point ahead of Milan Inter, who hosts Lecce on Sunday, and Milan, who hosts Fiorentina on Saturday.
Lazio stopped a series of eight consecutive victories for the southern team and inflicted it with the second loss in the league this season and the first at home after it fell to its host Inter Milan 0-1 on the fourth of last January.
Napoli’s balance was frozen at 65 points, 17 points ahead of Lazio, but Milan’s poles have the opportunity to reduce the difference to 15 points if they beat Lecce and Fiorentina.
