According to the statement, the arrest and investigation orders included: “the former Minister of Finance, the director of the office of the former Prime Minister, the personal secretary of the former Prime Minister and the political advisor to the Prime Minister in the previous government.”

The statement confirmed that “the orders issued were based on the provisions of the Penal Code, and on the basis of the charge of facilitating the seizure of tax secretariat amounts.”

The case known as the “theft of the century”, which was revealed in mid-October, and involving former senior officials and businessmen, sparked outrage in Iraq and widespread criticism of widespread corruption.
