(CNN) — A helicopter carrying Iran’s sports minister crashed in the country’s southeast, killing two people and injuring 16 others, including the sports minister, according to the official IRNA news agency.
“The helicopter carrying Iranian Sports Minister Hamid Sajadi and his accompanying delegation crashed while landing in a stadium in the central city of Baft,” the agency said, adding that among the dead was Ismail Ahmadi, Assistant Minister of Sports.
Health officials told the news agency that the Minister of Sports was injured in the head and hand and was suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to a hospital.
The official Iranian channel “Press TV”, quoting the Iranian Civil Aviation Authority, stated that the Iranian Red Crescent Society will conduct an investigation into the causes of the plane crash.
The channel indicated that the Minister of Sports and his accompanying delegation intend to visit Baft in the Iranian province of Kerman “to open new sports facilities.”
