Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Former France national football star Just Fontaine has passed away at the age of 89.

Fontaine, who was born in Morocco, scored 30 goals in 21 international matches with the “Roosters”, including his record in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, when he scored 13 goals in that edition.

Just Fontaine is fourth in the list of all-time scorers in World Cup finals, level with Lionel Messi, despite appearing in the tournament only once.

He also had a huge rate in terms of his participation with French clubs, with Nice and Reims, and achieved a number of titles, including: the local league and the cup, in addition to reaching the European Club Cup final in 1959.

Fontaine worked in the technical field. He coached the French national team in 1967 for a short period, then supervised Paris Saint-Germain, Toulouse and the Morocco national team.
