From Tehran, the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency talks about Israel’s threats to Iran’s nuclear facilities

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, visited Tehran on Saturday, during which he confirmed that “the agency is ready to continue working with Iran,” according to the official Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

“Some issues must be made transparent in terms of safeguards related to Tehran’s nuclear program,” Grossi said, during his participation in the press conference held with the head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami.

He added, “There are two issues of great importance, which are joint work with Iran with regard to adding transparency and safeguards agreement towards Iran’s nuclear program, and technical and scientific cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran,” according to what the agency published.

Grossi expressed his “satisfaction with his return to Iran and meeting with Iranian scholars and elites, which left the deepest impression on himself,” he said.

Regarding Israel’s threats against Iranian nuclear facilities, IRNA quoted Grossi as saying that “threats against nuclear facilities have become a common issue, and this is due to the war in Ukraine, which brings back some memories,” as he put it, stressing that the International Atomic Energy Agency In its general conferences, it denounced such threats.

He added, according to what was reported by (IRNA), that “any military action against nuclear facilities is considered illegal and falls outside the framework of our work.”

Grossi explained that “what the IAEA is doing in terms of inspecting the nuclear facilities of some countries comes within the legal and human rights agreements with those countries,” in response to a question about the IAEA’s inspection of Israel’s nuclear facilities, adding that “Israel is not part of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

“I ask the international community to understand that the International Atomic Energy Agency operates on the basis of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that it is not its responsibility to decide which place to inspect,” Grossi said.
