Atlanta, USA (CNN) — The European Union’s ambassador to China, Jorge Toledo Albinana, said Friday that the 12-point document issued by Beijing detailing its position on the war in Ukraine “is not a peace proposal.”
Albinana said: “This is not a peace proposal. This is a document that expresses a position, so we can describe it as representing China’s position on what is happening, which we knew in advance,” he said.
The European official added: “From what I saw, there is no mention of the aggressor, which is strange, because it is clear that there is an aggressor, and there is illegal and unjustified aggression, and this is somewhat disturbing,” he said.
Albinana added that the European Union will closely study the position paper presented by China on the war on Ukraine.
On Friday, the Chinese government issued a document consisting of 12 points, clarifying its position on Russia’s war on Ukraine, and called on Beijing in the document to “end hostilities and resume peace talks.”
