England coach: Facing Italy is proof of existence

England’s first football team is embarking on a new journey towards winning the first major title since 1966, when it is a guest on its Italian counterpart, the defending champion, on Thursday, in the start of the 2024 European Cup qualifiers.
The Southgate era saw a change in the position of his country on the world stage, and after reaching the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals in the last three tournaments, the failure of the English to achieve the next European Cup in Germany will be considered a failure.
On facing Italy, Southgate, the “Three Lions” coach, said: “These are matches that we have to prove that we can go there and win them. This is the next step for us as a team.”
England lost on penalties to Italy in the last European Cup final on home soil at Wembley Stadium, and failed to beat Roberto Mancini’s men twice in the European Nations League before the World Cup.
She did not win a single match in the Nations League, but she managed to raise her game as the World Cup approached.
Southgate added: “This is a big challenge we face, everyone wanted to go to the World Cup and the fight for places was great, in addition to the thirst, now we have to start again.”
