Borussia Dortmund’s first football team rose to the top of the German League, by defeating its host Hoffenheim 1-0, on Saturday, in the 22nd round.
Dortmund took the lead with 46 points, 3 points ahead of its direct chasers Bayern Munich, the defending champion in the past ten seasons, and Union Berlin, knowing that the two teams will face off, on Sunday, at the top of the matches of this stage.
It is the seventh consecutive victory for Dortmund in the “Bundesliga”, and the ninth in a row in various competitions since losing in the home of Borussia Monchengladbach 2-4 in the league in the 15th stage.
Dortmund, looking for a first title in the league since 2012, opened the scoring before the end of the first half, after a free kick from Marco Reus fell inside the area, and Julian Brandt bent down to collide with his back and deceive goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (43), in his seventh goal in the league this season.
Marius Wolf solo missed the opportunity to double the score after he carelessly hit a ball over the post (46).
The referee returned to the video assistant referee “VAR” to cancel Wolf’s goal due to a mistake by defender Niko Schloterbeck on Elas Bebo from Togo before the counterattack launched (58), and Hoffenheim’s Croatian striker Andrei Kramaric hit a powerful ball from outside the area that passed along the post (70).
