Do you only eat one food? Here’s what your plate should include

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Are you among the people who eat only one type of food? Dietary diversity is very important to our health, as the Saudi Food and Drug Authority addressed, in a tweet through its official account on the “Twitter” website, what a healthy meal should include.

Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and cheese
Grains such as oats, rice, corn, and barley
Proteins such as meat, fish, poultry, eggs, legumes, and nuts
Fats and oils such as olive oil
vegetables and fruits

The Saudi Ministry of Health stated, on its website, that diversifying foods helps meet the individual’s nutrient needs for energy production, growth, repair of damaged tissues, and regulation of biochemical reactions within the body.

It is generally recommended to limit foods and drinks that are high in calories, fat, sugar or salt. This aims to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, some types of cancer, and osteoporosis.

Below, the Saudi Ministry of Health has published some steps for a more healthy diet:

Chew food slowly and enjoy its taste
Eat breakfast every day to control your hunger during the day
Enjoying food and not being full
Ensure that the meal includes vegetables and fruits
Eat more vegetables and fruits than drink juice
Choose lean meats that have been cooked with less salt and fat
Eat at least two servings of fish each week, especially salmon, sardines, trout and mackerel
Drink skimmed or low-fat milk
Dairy products are an important source of calcium, protein, vitamins, and minerals
Drink water in an organized way, especially in hot weather or during physical activity
Avoid drinks with added sugar and replace them with water as much as possible
Do physical activity daily to maintain a healthy weight and enjoy better health
