Norwegian Erling Haaland scored five goals, a “mega hat-trick”, to lead his English team, Manchester City, to a 7-1 victory over Leipzig, during the match that brought them together, on Tuesday, in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
Haaland scored his goals at the 22nd minutes from a penalty kick, 24 and the second from lost time for the first half, 52 and 57, and Ilkay Guendogan and Kevin De Bruyne added the sixth and seventh goals in the 49th and second minutes of stoppage time for the match.
After his five goals, Haaland became, at the age of 22 years and 236 days, the youngest player to cross the 30-goal barrier in the Champions League, 116 days behind French top scorer Kylian Mbappe, the star of Paris Saint-Germain.
With this victory, the Manchester City team qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament, winning the two-legged aggregate “7-1”, as the first-leg match that took place in Germany ended in a “1-1” draw.
Manchester City had advanced to the round of 16 after leading Group G with 14 points, while Leipzig advanced to this role after finishing second in Group F with 12 points, one behind Real Madrid.
