Bayern rises with three Union Berlin

The first German football team, Bayern Munich, won its counterpart, Union Berlin, “3-0”, consolidating its position as a candidate to retain the German First Division title, as its guest suffered its first defeat in the tournament in 2023, on Sunday.
Bayern recovered from its loss against Borussia Monchengladbach last week, and made a great performance in the first half, raising its tally to 46 points, ahead of Borussia Dortmund, by goal difference, and by three points over third-ranked Onion.
There was more good news for the southern German side, with Senegalese striker Sadio Mania joining in the second half after missing more than three months due to an injury in November.
Bayern, who hosted Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on March 8, dealt blow after blow to Onion, leaving him no chance to recover.
The defending champions had 70 percent possession of the ball, and Thomas Mueller, who played his 650th match for Bayern in all competitions, failed to open the scoring after a pass from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the fifth minute.
Chubumuteng gave Bayern the lead with a header over goalkeeper Frederick Ronov after Kingsley Coman’s cross in the 31st minute.
Koeman made the score 2-0 after dribbling the Onion goalkeeper before Jamal Musiala completed the hat-trick with a pass from Mueller in stoppage time for the first half and celebrated his 20th birthday with his 11th goal in the league this season.
The situation did not change after the break with the continued decline of Union, who had won five of the last six league matches in 2023 to maintain their title hopes.
Onion owes credit to his goalkeeper Ronov, who saved him from losing by a heavy score.
