Al-Duhail first football team retained the top spot in the Qatari league after overcoming Al-Arabi 3-1 on Thursday in the sixteenth round, which saw Al-Rayyan fall into a tie trap with Umm Salal 1-1.
The team of Argentine coach Hernan Crespo overcame a humiliating loss against Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia 7-0 in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League, strengthening its leadership in the standings after reaching the 35th point with a postponed match with Al-Rayyan from the 15th round due to the continental championship.
Al-Arabi suffered the fourth loss in the tournament, to freeze its score at 31 points out of 15 matches, retaining its second position, and wasting the opportunity to pounce on the lead.
Al-Arabi received a painful blow when the referee issued two yellow cards to Syrian international striker Omar Al-Soma within one minute, to be expelled from the match (77).
Al-Duhail took advantage of the shortage to secure its victory with the third goal through Michael Olunga, who singled goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada and put the ball into the net (90 + 1).
