After hosting European competitions, Saudi Arabia is hosting the Indian football championship

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Saudi Football Association announced, on Monday, that the Saudi capital, Riyadh, will host the Indian national football championship, which bears the name “Hero Santosh Cup”, during the period from 1 to 4 March.

The Saudi Football Association stated on its official website that hosting the tournament comes within the memorandum of understanding that the Saudi Federation signed with its Indian counterpart last October, in addition to the efforts made to strengthen cooperation frameworks with all federations on various continents.

The Hero Santosh Cup is being held outside India for the first time. In its beginnings, it witnessed the participation of 12 clubs in the group stage system, and then the knockout.

Riyadh will host the semi-finals, the final match, and the match for the third and fourth places of the Indian Championship, on the grounds of King Fahd International Stadium.

Punjab Club will meet its counterpart Meghalaya, and Services will meet its rival Karnataka in the semi-finals.

Saudi Arabia has previously hosted the Spanish Super Cup and the Italian Super Cup.
