Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – English club Chelsea announced, on Monday, its intention to hold a group breakfast during the upcoming month of Ramadan, on the grounds of Stamford Bridge, in a unique step.
And the “Blues” issued a statement on its official website, carrying the announcement of holding an open iftar for Muslims on March 26.
“The open iftar provides Muslims who celebrate the month of Ramadan with the opportunity to gather to eat breakfast together, in addition to providing a safe space for dialogue and mutual participation,” the statement said.
He added: “A number of local mosques and members of the Chelsea Muslim community such as supporters and school students will be invited to attend along with Chelsea FC staff.”
He continued, “The open Iftar will be organized in collaboration with The Ramadan Tent Project, an award-winning charity established in 2013 with the aim of bringing communities together and developing the concept of Ramadan.”
Chelsea will be the first Premier League club to host an all-you-can-eat breakfast.
Simon Taylor, chairman of the Chelsea Foundation, told the official Blues website: “I am delighted to announce the open iftar along with the Ramadan Tent project and we are incredibly proud to be the first Premier League team to do so.”
“Recognizing the month of Ramadan and our Muslim community is an important aspect of our work to promote religious tolerance, and I look forward to welcoming everyone on March 26,” he added.
