Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – The United States of America announced, on Friday, the provision of a new aid package to Ukraine worth $ 2 billion, amid the assurance of the Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, that Washington will stand by Ukraine “whatever it takes.”
The package, which CNN published a report on Thursday, includes more HIMARS missile launchers, more artillery ammunition, as well as drones of various types and anti-drone weapons.
Russia has used Iranian drones to target Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, cutting off electricity to various parts of the country on occasion.
Unlike packages that draw military equipment directly from US stockpiles, this assistance falls under the Ukraine Security Support Initiative (USAI), under which the production of such equipment is coordinated with the military industrial sector.
The aid does not arrive quickly, but it is part of a long-term commitment to continue providing Ukraine with supplies of lethal and non-lethal weapons.
With the first year of the war completed, Austen described the Russian invasion as “the most urgent threat to European security since the end of World War II”.
Austin acknowledged the challenges facing Ukraine in the face of repeated Russian bombing, but pledged that the United States and allied countries within the framework of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group will continue to provide Kiev with the tools and weapons it needs for war.
Here is what is included in the new package:
Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)
Additional 155 mm artillery shells
Munitions for laser-guided missile systems
CyberLux K8 UAS Systems
Switchblade 600 drone control system
System “Altius-600 UAS”
Jump 20 UAS
Anti-drone systems and electronic warfare detection equipment
Mine clearing equipment
Secure communications support equipment
Training, maintenance and sustainability financing
